This last week I was such a weenie and a woosie, too. How's this, I'm paddling out to Kaiser's and right before I get to the line up I decide to take off my rashguard because my rash was bothering me. Well, I went underwater to pull it off and jammed my knee into a rock. There went my surf session as I had a gash in my knee.

We went home and my dad glued my cut back together and we went out the next morning. That was the first time I ever had a cut glued back together. I also had about three other injuries this week: my sister bit me and I got a big bruise, I got my finger pinched in school and I bumped my hand...

Hopefully this week I'll fair better.

Aloha, Carissa Moore

(A note from Carissa's dad)

From time to time Carissa gets an email from someone asking for a surfing tip. We'll here's one for you. It's actually one of the most fundamental and important tips we can share. The key to a good off-the-lip is developing a strong bottom turn. (The first shot of this sequence shows where she's starting her move to hit the lip.) I feel Carissa's bottom turn is just about the strongest aspect of her surfing. If you can develop a good bottom turn, it will help bring your surfing to a higher level.
