2008 SURF 'N SEA CHUN'S TO WAIMEA BAY SWIM was held Saturday, July 26 at 9:00 am. Over 400 swimmers entered the 1.6 mile swim. Swimmers enjoyed relatively calm conditions as they swam upwind from Chun's Reef to Waimea Bay. Ocean conditions featured no current and slight tradewinds, making forfast swimming times.
Past event winner and Olympic 10K Ocean Swimming Trialist, Noa Sakamoto, set a blistering pace from the start and won by an astounding 4 minutes over runner up darren Choi. Following closely by Kevin Moi and series time leader Dustin Fukuda.
All three swimmers are less than one minute apart going into the final swim. Times are as follows: Dustin Fukuda 1:24:39, Daren Choi, 1:25:09, Kevin Moy, 1:25:10.
On the women's side, Shanelle Choi won the women's division for her third victory of the series. Shanelle holds a comfortable series lead going into Saturday's final event.
The series ends August 9, 2008. The last race, the Surf'nSea North Shore Challenge Swim, from Ehukai Beach Park to Waimea Bay Swim, is a 12.3 mile point-to-point swim will start at 9:00 am. See you at the next swim!
